MEETING OF THE APEC SUB-COMMITTEE ON STANDARDS AND CONFORMANCE (SCSC)

MOSCOW, August 23, 2021 – In the period from August 20 to August 21, 2021, a meeting of the APEC Sub-committee on Standards and Conformance was held in the videoconference format, which was attended by a delegate of Rosstandart Mrs. Olga Trofimova, Head of the External Relations Division.

The meeting reviewed the implementation of the current projects, including certification of dairy products, trade promotion through compliance with internationally recognized standards and best practices of cybersecurity, capacity building for the development of climate actions for sustainable growth using the ISO 14080 standard, as well as the integration of good regulatory practices (GRP) in the Next Generation Free Trade Agreement.

 In addition, was presented a brief overview of the report of the Forum on Wine Regulation (WRF). Participants agreed to expand the possibilities of using wine product certificates for the fastest and barrier-free access to the markets of the countries participating in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). They also mentioned other important points, such as permanent access to WRF documents and free access to collections of wine rules in the APEC economy.

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is a leading international organization dedicated to strengthening economic integration, expanding trade, strengthening economic growth and increasing employment in the Asia-Pacific region. The Forum was founded in November 1989. Currently, 21 economies of the Asia-Pacific region are its participants. These include: Australia, Brunei, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Canada, China, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Russia, Singapore, the United States, Thailand, Taiwan, the Philippines, Chile and Japan. Today, the main areas of APEC cooperation are: support for the multilateral trading system and WTO reform; promotion and strengthening of regional economic integration; ensuring balanced, comprehensive, sustainable, innovative and secure growth; unlocking the potential of the digital economy and bridging digital gaps; strengthening the physical, institutional and humanitarian interconnectedness of economies; achieving inclusive economic growth by stimulating participation in the regional and global economy; implementing structural reforms to ensure a sustainable economic future.
