BRICS countries create a mechanism for cooperation in the field of standardization

PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA, October 25, 2019 – the mechanism of cooperation and priorities in the field of standardization were discussed on October 24 at the meeting of the Head of Rosstandart Alexey Abramov and representatives of national standardization bodies of the BRICS countries within the 83rd IEC General session, which is taking place in Shanghai these days.
At the conference, the parties outlined a range of priorities in the field of joint work. According to Alexey Abramov, among them are the development of aerospace technologies and standardization in the field of the Internet things.
One of the main decisions of the meeting is the joint development in the pilot mode of the IT-platform on standardization for the BRICS member countries. Also, the Chinese side announced the establishment of a Scientific and technical center for research of problems in standardization within the BRICS. The possibility of concluding a Memorandum of cooperation in the field of standardization was discussed.
"Today I see the first results of Russia's participation in international standardization, but we must move on. We need real support from the IEC. It is important to develop our skills, and to involve more experts to train our people. Also, on behalf of all Russian-speaking countries, I would like to express a request to increase the number of official Russian versions of international standards. Russia is ready to make commitments in this matter", – said Alexey Abramov.
Recall that at the 83rd General session of the IEC, the Russian delegation is headed by the Head of Rosstandart Alexey Abramov. The head of the department was elected a member of the Bureau of the Council in 2017 at the 81st IEC General session in Vladivostok and took office on 1 January 2018 for a period of three years.
