RUSSIAN DELEGATION TOOK PART IN THE MEETING OF INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION

The annual meeting of the steering committee of the Electronic Components Certification System of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC EC) was held via videoconference.

The main topics of the discussion were the reports on the results of sectoral Working Groups activities during 2020, presentation of new training programs and guidance documents and cooperation with international and regional organizations.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the national bodies – members of the IEC EC of Australia, Austria, Great Britain, Germany, China, Korea, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, Russian Federation, United States, France, Japan. The Russian delegation was headed by Mr. Anton Shalaev, member of the IEC EC Steering Committee, Head of the Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology. The delegation from Russia also included participants of the IEC EC certification system, representatives of the Rostest-Moscow and the Association "Russian Register".

The International IEC EC system was established in 1980 to reduce the costs of manufacturers in the evaluation and certification of electrical components used in the aviation, space, nuclear, automotive industries, LED equipment, means and methods of counterfeit prevention, and the management of hazardous substances in electronic and radio-electronic products. Russian Federation was a member of the system from 1980 to 2006. In accordance with the instructions of Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Yuri Borisov, Rosstandart at the end of 2020 ensured the return of the Russian Federation to the international certification system IEC EC. Thus, the barrier to the export of Russian electronic components should be overcame.

In his introductory report, the Vice-President of the International Electrotechnical Commission, Mr. Sean Paulsen, noted the challenges currently facing international standardization and certification, and the measures taken by the IEC to improve efficiency in the new environment.
