RUSSIA AND SAUDI ARABIA WILLEXPAND COOPERATIONIN THE FIELD OF STANDARDIZATION

MOSCOW, February 19, 2021–Strengthening and extension of cooperation between Rosstandart and the Saudi Organization for Standards, Metrology and Quality (SASO) were discussed at a meeting held in the video conference formaton 18 February 2021.

Maria Pishchulina, Head of Administration and External Relations of Rosstandart headed the Russian delegation; Al-Swaah Abdulrahman, Director of the Bilateral Cooperation Department of SASO, chaired the Saudi side.

Maria Pishchulina told about the tasks of Rosstandart, the structure of the Agency and its priorities. The central topic was focused on finalization of the draft Implementation Plan of the Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of Standardization, Metrology and Conformity Assessment. The document is aimed at exchanging standards, promoting the recognition of the results of metrological work and organization of joint training activities. The Implementation Plansigning may take place in 2021 as part of a meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Saudi Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.

The history of cooperation between SASO and Rosstandart began in 2011. After 8 years, Russia and Saudi Arabia signed a high-level Strategic Cooperation Program that identifies opportunities for developing partnerships in the oil and gas industry, metallurgy, mining, and agriculture. The program also includes issues of standards harmonization.

The next online meeting is scheduled for the third quarter of 2021.
