GLOBAL SURVEY ON THE FUTURE OF THE ISO STANDARD 9001

cover
Publication date:

MOSCOW, August 6, 2020 – International standard ISO 9001 "Quality management systems. Requirements", developed by the International Organization for Standardization, is one of the most widely recognized standards in the world. According to data for the beginning of 2019, almost 900 thousand quality management system certificates have been registered in the world, covering more than 1 million production sites in almost all countries of the world. ISO 9001 is also the basis for a number of industry standards that define requirements for quality management systems in the automotive, aerospace, and other industries. Tens of millions of people around the world are involved in the development, implementation and operation of quality management systems.

First published in 1987, ISO 9001 has been reissued 4 times, responding to the challenges of a changing global economy, advances in technology, and trends in society. All versions of ISO 9001 have been adopted in Russia as harmonized national standards, and Russian experts from the very beginning of work on ISO 9001 make a significant contribution to the activities of the specialized international Technical Committee ISO/TC 176 "Management and quality assurance".

In November 2019, ISO decided to conduct a global survey on the future of ISO 9001. Russian expert Valentin Dzedik became the Vice-Chairman of the international task group on the development of the corresponding questionnaire and preparation for the revision of ISO 9001.

The purpose of the survey is to collect data about:

– the benefits received by organizations as a result of implementing quality management systems in accordance with the requirements of the current version of ISO 9001:2015;

– advantages and disadvantages of the standard;

– the opinion of users of the standard on how to ensure the relevance of ISO 9001 in the future.

One of the key elements of the survey is the question of the future of the ISO 9001 standard itself – whether it should be remained in the current version for the next five-year period, revised or supplemented with standards containing a reduced and/or expanded set of requirements.

 For the convenience of users, the survey is designed in 14 languages, including Russian.

Rosstandart invites all users of ISO 9000 standards who are not indifferent to the future development of quality management systems to take part in a global survey on its future, posted here
