United States of America, April 19, 2019 - Russia and the United States have all opportunities to expand cooperation in modern standards development, as well as in the field of ensuring the uniformity of measurements. This was announced by the Head of the Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology (Rosstandart) Alexey Abramov during a recent visit to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States.
Visit of the Russian delegation took place from 15 to 19 of April, 2019 at the invitation of the American side. Delegation also included deputy Head of Rosstandart Sergey Golubev and Acting director of FSUE STANDARTINFORM Viacheslav Vitushkin.

Key event of the visit was a meeting of the Head of Rosstandart with NIST Director Dr.Walter Copan. The National Institute of Standards and Technology is a federal agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce and is not involved into regulatory frameworks. NIST coordinates and promotes federal authorities' activities, including participation in voluntary standards harmonization.
«Russia and the USA have good opportunities for expanding cooperation in the field of metrology and in the development of modern standards for industry and business. American specialists are ready to develop cooperation with the National Institute of Standards that is being established in our country», - noted Alexey Abramov whilst his visit to NIST.

During a tour of the institute, NIST representatives spoke about neutron research, optical, dimensional and mass metrology, as well as the specifics of legal metrology in the United States.
Another significant meeting took place in the American International Society for Testing Materials (ASTM International) where Russian delegation met ASTM Senior vice president John Pace. Main topics of the meeting were expanding cooperation between the parties and copyright for standards of other countries. Viacheslav Vitushkin informed American colleagues about the Federal Information fund of standards of the Russian Federation.

Russian delegation also met representatives of the American Petroleum Institute (API) and discussed the prospects for further cooperation. Particularly, the establishment of regulatory and technical cooperation base.
At the close of the United States visit Alexey Abramov met the Executive director of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), Dr. Joe Bhatia. Parties considered opportunities for bilateral cooperation development between Rosstandart and ANSI as well as online portal of ANSI standards (IBR Standards Portal).
